[′ap·əl ¦sēd·ər ‚rəst] (plant pathology) A disease of apples and Eastern red cedars that is caused by the fungus Gymnosporangium juniperi-virginianae ; on cedar branches, it manifests itself as brown round galls that do not cause injury, and on apple leaves, as yellow spots that later turn brown and result in cupping and curling of the leaf.
