Vilkuna, Kustaa Gideon

 

Born Oct. 26, 1902, in Nivala. Finnish ethnographer and public figure.

Vilkuna became a member of the Finnish Academy of Sciences in 1959 and has been a professor at the University of Helsinki since 1950. He studied the peasant economy and material culture history of the Finns, including their folk traditions and ceremonies, folk calendar, and ancient forms of communal organization.
