an urban-type settlement in Semiozernoe Raion, Kustanai Oblast, Kazakh SSR, located south of Lake Kushmurun. A railroad station on the Tselinograd-Kartaly line. Population, 14,000 (1970). There are railroad-transport enterprises in Kushmurun.


Kushmurun

 

or Ubagan, a lake in Kustanai Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Area, 210 sq km (it fluctuates greatly with changes in the water level); average depth, 1–3 m. Located in the northern part of the Turgai Hollow at an elevation of 103 m, the lake is fed by snow. The Ubagan River flows through Lake Kushmurun. In spring, during high water, the water is fresh and potable, but it is salty the rest of the year. Lake Kushmurun abounds with fish (perch, bream, and wild carp).
