Kurtamysh is situated on the Kurtamysh River (a tributary of the Tobol River), 52 km south of the Iurgamysh railroad station on the Chelia-binsk-Kurgan line, and 88 km southwest of Kurgan. Population, 16,000 (1972). Kurtamysh has a mechanical repair shop, a cheese dairy, a brickyard, furniture and clothing factories, a lumber procurement and distribution establishment, an agricultural technicum, and a teachers college.
