Population, 235,200 (1970). The port’s freight turnover totals about 5 million tons (1970), of which 1 million tons are foreign-trade freight. The country’s largest shipyards are located here. Other industries include metallurgy, metalworking, petrochemicals, engine construction, food processing, paper manufacture, and the production of arms and ammunition.
