Kurban-Bayram

(Turkic, “feast of sacrifice”; Arabic, id al-qurban or id al-adha), a Muslim holy day observed annually on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijja (the 12th month of the Muslim lunar calendar). The basic ritual is the offering of a blood sacrifice, usually a ram or camel. It originated in the ancient religion of nomadic herdsmen, who offered sacrifices to the spirits of the desert in order to “appease” them. Muslims make pilgrimages at the time of Kurban-Bayram.
