It is the trade center for the cotton- and grain-growing Great Plains region of Texas and E New Mexico. Its manufactures include cottonseed oil, earth-moving and irrigation equipment, and pumps. Food and dairy products are produced, and there are wineries. A prairie-dog town is preserved in Mackenzie State Park. Lubbock Lake Landmark State Historical Park is an archaeological and natural history preserve. Texas Tech Univ., Lubbock Christian College, and the Texas Air Museum are in the city. Lubbocka city in the southern USA, in Texas. Population, 149,000 (1970). Lubbock is a railroad junction and the commercial center of an important agricultural region (cotton, wheat, and livestock raising).
