Obihiro

a city in Japan, in the southern part of Hokkaido. Population, 131,600 (1970). The city is the center of a grain-producing region on the Tokachi Plain. It has enterprises for the repair of railroad equipment, as well as food-processing, woodworking, and linen industries. Near the city are settlements of the Ainu, an indigenous people of Japan.
