Kumbulta

 

a settlement on the left bank of the Urukh River in Digora Raion, Severnaia Osetiia ASSR. Several burial grounds are located near the settlement: Upper and Lower Rutkha, Tsartsiat, and others. The Upper Rutkha burial ground was investigated from 1938 to 1940. Clan crypts of the middle Bronze Age and graves of the Koban culture (first millennium B.C.) were discovered. The Tsartsiat burial ground consists of stone crypts and graves, in which gold ornaments of the north Caucasian Alani (fifth to 11th centuries) were found. A medieval Ossetian dzuar (sanctuary) is located near Kumbulta. Ossetian clan towers of the 16th to 18th centuries are preserved in the settlement.
