Kumanets

Kumanets

a ceramic vessel for water and wine that is common in the Ukraine. A variant of the disklike baklaga, it has gently rounded sides. There are two types of kumantsy, the pleskach and the kalach. The pleskach has either two lugs or a spout and a handle, which are not attached at the narrow neck; it may or may not have a foot. The kalach always has a spout and a handle at the neck, a foot, and a large opening in the body. Kumantsy are usually decorated with foliage designs and depictions of birds and animals.
