an urban-type settlement; administrative center of Embinskii Raion, Gur’ev Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Located 11 km from the Emba River (lower course). Railroad station on the Makat-Beineu line, 230 km east of Gur’ev. Population, 16,000 (1970). There is petroleum extraction.
