Narrow-Row Seeding

Narrow-Row Seeding

row seeding of agricultural crops with interrow spaces 7–8 cm wide. The method is used in the cultivation of grain crops, the flax Linum usitatissimum var. elongata (in the USSR all such flax is sown in narrow rows), some perennial grasses, and vegetables such as radish, lettuce, and dill.

Narrow-row seeding places the seeds in the soil more evenly than conventional row seeding, with 15-cm interrow spaces, and the feeding area approximates a square, which provides more light for the plants and better use of moisture and nutrients. Narrow-row seeding is done with narrow-row planters. The results of such planting depend largely on the quality of preplanting soil treatment.
