Kuba Khanate

Kuba Khanate

a feudal state in northeastern Azerbaijan that arose about 1750. From 1758 to 1789 it was headed by fath Ali Khan (1736–89), who united all the Caspian lands of Azerbaijan as far as Ardebil in the south. In 1787 he concluded an alliance with the Georgian emperor Erekle II directed against Persian aggression. In 1775, 1783, and 1787, embassies from the khanate were sent to the Russian government with requests for protection. The khanate disintegrated in the early 1790’s after the death of Fath Ali Khan, and in 1806 it was annexed to Russia. The annexation was confirmed in 1813 by the Peace of Gulistan.
