Netsch, Walter A.

(1920–2008)Architect Netsch spent nearly his entire career at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, where he led the design team for the Air Force Academy Chapel (illus.), in Colorado Springs, CO, completed in 1963. He was also responsible, with SOM’s Bruce Graham, for the Inland Steel Building in Chicago, recognized as one of the mid-2Oth-century’s best modernist buildings. He designed 15 libraries and other academic buildings for Northwestern University and buildings for Grinnell College, Miami University of Ohio, the Illinois Institute of Technology, and the University of Chicago, among others. He also designed the east wing of the Art Institute of Chicago.
