Ktitor

(from Greek ktitor, “founder,” “creator”), a person who financed the building or redecoration (with icons and frescoes) of an Orthodox church. Representations, including portraits, of such donors are found frequently in medieval art. From the 17th and 18th centuries church elders were called ktitors.
