Mendeleevsk
(until 1967, the settlement of Bondiuzhskii), a city in Elabuga Raion, Tatar ASSR. It is located 3 km from the landing of Tikhie Gory (on the Kama River) and 70 km south of the railroad station of Mozhga (on the Kazan-Agryz line). The city arose around a chemical plant that was founded in the mid-19th century and reconstructed during the Soviet period. It was renamed after D. I. Mendeleev, who worked at the plant.
