Kstovo

 

a city in Gorky Oblast, RSFSR, on the right bank of the Volga River, on the Gorky-Kazan highway. It is a port city. Railroad station 22 km southeast of Gorky; population, 48,700 (1971). Kstovo is the site of the Novogor’kovskii Oil Refinery, a factory for the complete processing and repair of tires, a factory for the production of articles made from slag cotton, a plant for the manufacture of reinforced-concrete structural components, and a wood-products plant. There is also food industry. The Novogor’kovskaia Heat and Electric Power Plant and a petroleum technicum are located in the city. Kstovo arose in the 14th century and became a city in 1957.
