Krøyer, Peder Serverin
Born July 23, 1851, in Stavanger, Norway; died Nov. 20 or 21, 1909, in Skagen. Danish realist painter.
Krøyer attended the Academy of Arts in Copenhagen from 1864 to 1870; from 1877 to 1879 he worked in the studio of J. L. Bonnat in Paris. He painted portraits (portrait of H. Drach-mann, 1902; Hirschsprung Collection, Copenhagen) and scenes from everyday life (Fishermen on the Seashore, 1883; State Art Museum, Copenhagen). Krøyer sought to communicate movement, as well as the ambience of light and air and its effect on the form of his subjects.
