Krustanov, Liubomir

 

Born Nov. 15, 1908, in Pleven. Bulgarian meteorologist and geophysicist; academician (1960) and president (since 1962) of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Member of the Bulgarian Communist Party since 1941; candidate member of the Central Committee since 1962.

In 1932 he began working at the Central Meteorological Institute of Bulgaria; he became its director in 1950. He was a professor at the University of Sofia and head of the Bulgarian Hydrometeorological Service from 1951 to 1959, and he has been the director of the Geophysics Institute since 1959. His main works have been concerned with physical chemistry, meteorology, and atmospheric physics (the physics of clouds, their moisture content, condensation processes, and turbulence in atmospheric layers near the earth). He is a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966).
