Narodnoe Obrazovanie

 

(Public Education), a monthly journal issued by the Ministry of Education of the USSR and the Ministry of Education of the RSFSR. It has been published in Moscow since 1946. The predecessor of Narodnoe obrazovanie was the journal Narodnoe prosveshchenie (Public Education), issued in Moscow from 1918 to 1930 by the People’s Commissariat of Education of the RSFSR. Among the contributors to Narodnoe prosveshchenie were P. I. Lebedev-Polianskii, A. V. Lunarcharskii, N. K. Krupskaia, M. N. Pokrovskii, S. T. Shatskii, L. S. Vygotskii, and A. S. Bubnov.

Narodnoe obrazovanie is intended for public-education officials, teachers in the various types of general schools, instructors in specialized secondary and vocational schools and in pedagogical institutions of higher learning, the staffs of extracurricular institutions, and party and soviet workers concerned with problems of teaching and upbringing. The journal publishes articles dealing with the organization of education, the theory of education, and teaching methods and problems. Important questions concerning the current state and organization of public education and the spread of progressive pedagogical experience are discussed. The journal also has sections entitled “School and Life,” “Abroad,” and “Criticism and Bibliography.” Circulation, 130,000 (1974).
