Kruber Range

Kruber Range

a chain of dormant volcanoes on Medvezhii Peninsula in the northeastern part of Iturup Island (Kuril Islands). It forms the water divide between the Pacific Ocean and the Okhotsk Sea. The range measures 24 km long and has elevations from 400 to 700 m (Mount Sibetoro is 853 m). It includes the walls of the vast ancient Tsirk caldera of Mount Milanovskii (712 m). There are traces of ancient glaciation. The slopes are covered with elfin birch alder woodlands with a thick undergrowth of Sasa kurilensis and thickets of Siberian dwarf pine. The range was named in honor of A. A. Kruber.
