Kronotskaia Sopka
Kronotskaia Sopka
an active volcano on the east coast of Kamchatka Peninsula. The volcano has a regular ribbed cone crowned with a glacial cap. Elevation, 3,528 m. The crater is filled with an extrusive plug. Kronotskaia Sopka is composed of basalt and andesite (lava, cinders, and ashes). Fumaroles are active; their activity intensified in 1923.
