Kroll, Leon

(krōl), 1884–1974, American painter and lithographer, b. New York City. Kroll studied in New York with J. H. Twachtman and later in Paris. He returned to New York, where he became a well-known teacher. His oils are characterized by clarity, strong color, and attention to modeling of forms. Kroll's work is represented in major galleries throughout the United States. His many murals include one for the Worcester War Memorial and one for the Justice Dept., Washington, D.C.
