Krivoi Rog State Regional Electric Power Plant No. 2

 

one of the largest steam power plants in the USSR. It is located near the urban-type settlement of Zelenodol’sk, Dnepropetrovsk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, 50 km from Krivoi Rog. It is part of the unified power grid of the southern USSR. Its rated power is 3,000 megawatts (MW) or 3 million kilowatts (kW). The construction of the first and second stages, each with four power units having turbines rated at 300 MW each, was completed in 1970. Construction of the third stage (two units of 300 MW each) was begun in 1971. The first unit was put into service in 1972. The plant uses Donets coal, it has an industrial circulating-water system, and a cooling basin with an area of 15.4 sq km has been built near the plant. The control of the power units is automated.
