Nguyen Khanh Toan

 

Born Aug. 1; 1905, in Vinh. Vietnamese public figure and historian. Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam since 1931.

In 1926 Nguyen Khanh Toan graduated with a degree in humanities from the University of Hanoi. He emigrated in 1928 but returned to Vietnam in 1945 after the victory of the August Revolution. Nguyen Khanh Toan serves as chairman of the State Committee for the Social Sciences of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He is the author of such works on the history of Vietnam as A Short History of Vietnam (1952), On the Formation of an Absolute Monarchy in Vietnam in the Middle Ages (1952), and Ho Chi Minh (1969). He has also published works on world history, literature, linguistics, and pedagogy. He is the editor in chief of a number of fundamental studies of the history of Vietnam, including The History of Vietnam (vol. 1, 1972), and Vietnamese language and literature.

Nguyen Khanh Toan was made a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1976.
