Krasnoiarsk Forest-Steppe

Krasnoiarsk Forest-Steppe

a forest-steppe near the city of Krasnoiarsk that primarily occupies slopes and terraces on the left bank of the Enisei. In the south it is bounded by the spurs of the Vostochnyi Saian; in the north it becomes the Western Siberian Plain. The relief is flat, with some hills and ridges. The climate is continental and moderately arid (total annual precipitation is 300 mm). Park forests on gray forest soils are predominant in the north; chernozem meadow and typical steppes are in the south (feather grass-forb and forb-meadow, almost entirely plowed up). An important agricultural and industrial region of Eastern Siberia is situated in the Krasnoiarsk Forest-Steppe. There are deposits of brown coal (Kansk-Achinsk Coal Basin).
