Orsk-Khalilovo Metallurgical Combine

(OKhMK), a large ferrous-metallurgy plant in the USSR with a closed metallurgical cycle. It is located in the city of Novotroitsk, near Orsk, Orenburg Oblast, RSFSR. Founded in 1939, the combine was built after the Great Patriotic War (1941–45) and began operations in 1955. Its raw material base is the Khalilovo iron-ore deposit and the coking coal of the Karaganda basin. During the Great Patriotic War the OKhMK supplied the metallurgical industry of the Urals with manganese ore from deposits located 11 km from the present site of the combine.

As of 1973, the combine comprised 38 basic, auxiliary, and subordinate shops, an iron-ore deposit, limestone quarries, and fireclay deposits. The commodity output includes cast iron, steel, rolled metal, fireclay products, coke and coke by-products, granulated slag, and goods for household consumption. Production in 1973 amounted to 2.2 million tons of cast iron, 3.3 million tons of steel, and 2.7 million tons of rolled metal. The combine was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1971.
