Krasnaia Poliana

 

an urban-type settlement in Viatskie Poliany Raion, Kirov Oblast, RSFSR. Situated on the left bank of the Viatka River (Kama basin), 3 km from the Viatksie Poliany station on the Kazan-Agryz railroad line. Population, 10,700 (1971). Industry includes the Viatksie Poliany Wood-products Firm and a plant producing reinforced-concrete structural members.


Krasnaia Poliana

 

an urban-type settlement in Krasnodar Krai, RSFSR. Situated in the valley of the Mzymta River, at an elevation of 550 m in the spurs of the Greater Caucasus, 52 km northeast of the Adler railroad station, with which it is linked by a highway that runs along the Mzymta River. Krasnaia Poliana has a health resort; it is a center of tourism in the western part of the Caucasus and there are two tourist facilities. It also has a lumber combine and a hydroelectric power plant.

Krasnaia Poliana

 

an urban-type settlement in Moscow Oblast, RSFSR, 5 km west of the Lobnia railroad station (on the Moscow-Dmitrov line) and 27 km from Moscow. It is the site of a cotton mill (since 1848), a ceramics plant, and the Lobnia Electrical Engineering Plant. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45, Krasnaia Poliana and the village of Katiushki, 2 km away, were the closest points to Moscow (27–25 km) that were occupied on Dec. 3, 1941, by fascist German troops. They were liberated on Dec. 8, 1941, by Soviet troops during a counter-offensive.
