Krestovskaia, Mariia Vsevolodovna

 

(married name, M. V. Kartavtseva). Born 1862; died June 24 (July 7), 1910, at Marioki, Finland. Russian writer. Daughter of the writer V. V. Krestovskii.

Krestovskaia’s novels and novellas—for example, Isa: A Small Corner of the Theater World (1885), Lelia: A Small Corner of the Theater World (1885), Early Storms (1886), The Son (1893), and Mytishchev’s Confession (1901)—reflected specific problems related to the position of women in society and the mores of the theater.
