Naphthylamines

aminonaphthalenes, naphthalene derivatives of the general formula C₁₀ H₈-n-(NH₂)_n typical aromatic amines. The forms that are of practical importance are the α-isomer, which is produced by reduction of a-nitronaphthalene (β-naphthylamine is a carcinogen and therefore is not produced commercially), and also 1,5- and β-naphthalenediamines. Naphthylamines are crystalline solids that dissolve readily in acids but are poorly soluble in water. Naphthylamines and their corresponding sulfonic acids are used in the synthesis of dyes.
