(gū-lon'ik as'id), Reduction product of glucuronic acid (-CHO → -CH2OH); oxidation product of l-gulose (-CHO → -COOH); a precursor (except in certain primates, guinea pigs, certain fishes, and the Indian fruit bat) of ascorbic acid via l-gulonolactone.
