an urban-type settlement in Komi ASSR, on the left bank of the Pechora River. Railroad station, 13 km southwest of the city of Pechora. Kozhva is a center for shipping timber.
Kozhva
(Bol’shaia Kozhva, Kovzha), a river in the Komi ASSR, a left tributary of the Pechora River. Length, 194 km; basin area, 9,560 sq km. The river flows through marshy coniferous forests and is fed mostly by snow. The Kozhva freezes over in late October or early November and thaws in late April to the middle of May. Tributaries include the Luza from the left and the Chikshina from the right. The river is used to float logs.
