Kovylkino


Kovylkino

 

a city (a settlement until 1960) in the southern part of the Mordovian ASSR. Located on the left bank of the Moksha River, a tributary of the Oka. Kovylkino has a station on the Ruzaevka-Riazan’ railroad line, 114 km southwest of the city of Saransk. Population, 17,000 (1970). The Avtozapchast’ factory (making vehicle spare parts), silicate brick factory, an alcoholic spirits distillery, and a creamery are located in the city. Educational and cultural facilities include a construction technicum and a people’s amateur theater.
