Meloe
Meloe a genus of beetles of the family Meloidae. The body measures 7-50 mm; wings are absent. There are about 130 species widely distributed throughout the world, except for Australia and South America. In the USSR there are more than 40 species, chiefly in the south. The larvae of Meloe parasitize the nests of solitary bees and sometimes bring about the death of the common honeybee; the Meloe beetles may damage the shoots of field crops in the spring. |
