Naphthalenesulfonic Acids
Naphthalenesulfonic Acids
naphthalene derivatives of the general formula C10He8-n (S03H)nwhere η= 1, 2, 3, or 4; crystalline substances that are readily soluble in water and mineral acids. The most widely used commercial forms are a- and β-naphthalenesulfonic acids (the latter is the initial product for the preparation of β-naphthol), the 2,6- and 2,7-isomers of disulfonic acids, and the 1,3,6-isomer of trisulfonic acids. Naphthalenesulfonic acids are intermediate products in the synthesis of dyes.
