Koszyce Privilege of 1374
Koszyce Privilege of 1374
a document promulgated by the Polish King Louis I of Anjou on September 17 after negotiations with representatives of the Polish nobility at a congress in the town of Koszyce (Czech, Kosice). The nobility recognized Louis’s dynastic claims, in return for which he granted to the entire nobility the rights and privileges previously enjoyed by the high lay and clerical feudal lords. The privilege released the nobility from all obligations to the Crown except military service and the payment of a small tax on landed property and guaranteed the nobility’s exclusive right to holding state offices.
