Nansen Basin
Nansen Basin
a submarine depression in the western part of the Arctic basin, bounded in the north by the Gakkel Ridge and in the south by the Spitsbergen-Severnaia Zemlia continental slope. The average depth is 3,430 m. The Litke Canyon, with a maximum depth of 5,449 m, cuts into the basin on the west. The basin was named in honor of F. Nansen.
