Established: 1973.
Location:On the Nansemond River in Suffolk, 10 miles west of Portsmouth.
Special Features:A satellite refuge managed by Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge.
Habitats: 207 acres of mostly salt marshland and an additional 204 acres of upland grassland and forested stream corridors (transferred from the US Navy in 1999).
Access: Closed to the public since access is limited to a roadway passing through closed military areas.
Wild life: Black ducks, mallards, canvasbacks, and wading, marsh, and shorebirds.
