Korsakov
a city (since 1946) in Sakhalin Oblast, RSFSR. It is situated in the southern part of Sakhalin Island, on the shore of Aniva Bay. It is the largest port on Sakhalin, as well as a railroad station 40 km south of luzhno-Sakhalinsk. Population, 38,000 (1970). Korsakov’s industry includes a cardboard box factory, a fish combine, and a plant producing agar.
Korsakov
a plateau in the southern part of Sakhalin Island. Its flat surface represents a complex of ancient maritime terraces. Altitude, 100-150 m. The narrow, steep Merei (257 m high) and Kiminai (472 m) ridges rise to the east.The timber industry is important in this region, and the western parts of the plateau are under cultivation.
