Korostyshev

 

a city (since 1938), center of Korostyshev Raion, Zhitomir Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, on the Teterev River, a right tributary of the Dnieper, 3 km from the Korostyshev railroad station and 28 km northeast of Zhitomir. Population, 21,300 (1970). Industry includes paper, cotton-cloth, and briquette factories; repair and reinforced-concrete structural elements plants; a flax mill; a brickyard; and a distillery. There is also a pedagogical school. Lignite and granite are mined and processed nearby. Korostyshev was first mentioned in the 13th century.
