Kornilov, Boris Petrovich

 

Born July 16 (29), 1907; died Nov. 21, 1938. Soviet Russian poet.

Kornilov was born in the village of Pokrovskoe, now in Semenov Raion, Gorky Oblast. He made his debut as a poet in 1923. His collections include Youth (1928), A Book of Poems (1933), and Verses and Poems (1933). The narrative poems The Theses of a Novel (1933), Tripoli (1933), My Africa (1935), and The Earth’s Beginning (1936) present in a romantic mood the life-affirming struggle for a new world. Kornilov’s lyrical manner is characterized by melodiousness and emotionality. Kornilov also wrote the text of the “Song of the Counterplan” (music by D. D. Shostakovich). The city of Semenov has erected a memorial museum and a monument to the poet.
