Korf Gulf

a gulf of the Bering Sea, between the Govena and IPinskii peninsulas, at the base of Kamchatka Peninsula. Length, 75 km; width, approximately 70 km. It has high shores and is 20-68 m deep. The water by the shores of the gulf freezes over during the winter. The 2-m tides are irregular and semidiurnal. Walruses and whales inhabit the waters; there is fishing in the gulf. Korf, Tilichiki, and Oliutorka are coastal settlements. The gulf was named after A. N. Korf, the first governor-general of the Amur region.
