Lev Tauson

Tauson, Lev Vladimirovich

 

Born Oct 27, 1917, in Kamyshlov, Sverdlovsk Oblast. Soviet geochemist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966). Member of the CPSU since 1945. Son of V. O. Tauson.

L. V. Tauson graduated from Moscow State University in 1947 and began working at the Institute of Geochemistry and Analytic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR that same year. In 1960 he became director of the Institute of Geochemistry of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Irkutsk. His main work has dealt with the geochemistry of rare elements in genetic series of igneous rocks and the geochemistry of ore zones confined to abyssal fractures.

Tauson formulated the geochemical criteria for practical assessment of the ore content of magmas. He has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
