Levkoev, Igor Levkoev, Igor’ Ivanovich Born Nov. 19 (Dec. 2), 1909, in the village of Epanchino, now in Michurinsk Raion, Tambov Oblast. Soviet organic chemist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968). Upon graduating from the D. I. Mendeleev Moscow Chemical Engineering Institute (1931), Levkoev worked at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Motion-Picture Photography until 1966. In 1966 he was appointed head of a division at the State Scientific Research and Design Institute of the Photographic Chemicals Industry. His principal works are devoted to the development of the synthetic and applied branches of organic chemistry for photographic methods of data recording. Levkoev synthesized and introduced a large number of sensitizing polymethine dyes and other substances for use in photographic processes. He studied the sensitivity to light of many diazo compounds and used them in the manufacture of blue-print paper. A recipient of the State Prize of the USSR (1946), Levkoev has been awarded five orders and numerous medals. REFERENCES“I. I.
