Levitskii, Fedor Vasil’evich

 

Born May 2 (14), 1858, in Novoukrainka, now in Kirovograd Oblast; died Feb. 19, 1933, in Chernigov. Soviet Ukrainian actor; Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1926).

Levitskii made his professional debut in 1888. He appeared with the M. L. Kropivnitskii troupe, the O. Z. Suslov troupe, and his own troupe (1905–08), as well as at the N. K. Sadovskii Theater and the T. G. Shevchenko First Ukrainian Dramatic Theater. Levitskii’s characterizations (primarily comedic) were distinguished by vivid expressiveness and realism. His roles included the Scribe (in Karpenko-Karyi’s The Lonely Man), the Bailiff (in Kotliarevskii’s Natalka From Poltava), Kalenik (in Staritskii’s May Night), The Elder (Kropivnitskii’s At Inspection), Kopystka (Kulish’s 97), and Pikalov (Trenev’s Liubov’ Iarovaia)
