Lev Galin

Galin, Lev Aleksandrovich

 

Born Sept. 15 (28), 1912, in Bogorodsk, now in Gorky Oblast. Soviet scientist in the field of mechanics. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953). Member of the CPSU since 1951.

Upon graduating from the Moscow Technological Institute of Light Industry in 1939, Galin began working at the Institute of Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He has been a professor at Moscow University since 1956. His main works are on the theory of elasticity, on elasto-plastic problems, and on questions of the transient filtration of liquids.
