March, James G. (Gardner)

(1928– ) social scientist, educator; born in Cleveland, Ohio. An academic and business consultant, he joined the Stanford University faculty (1970), teaching management, higher education, political science, and sociology. His published works are similarly varied and include Organizations (1958), A Behavioral Theory of the Firm (1963), and Rediscovering Institutions: The Organizational Basis of Politics (coauthored, 1989).
