Meinzer, Oscar Edward

(1876–1948) geologist, hydrologist; born in Davis, Ill. His extensive research in Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona on groundwater, water tables, aquifers, and artesian wells, especially as applied to agriculture and economic geology, has made him the recognized father of groundwater hydrology. He was chief of the Division of Ground Water of the U.S. Geological Survey from 1913 until his retirement in 1946.
