Nancy Astor

Astor, Nancy (b. Nancy Witcher Langhorne)

(1879–1964) Viscountess, politician; born in Danville, Va. In 1906 she married the 2nd Viscount Astor, to whose seat in Britain's Parliament she succeeded (Conservative, 1919–45). The first woman to sit in the House of Commons, she promoted temperance and women's rights and wrote an early autobiography, My Two Countries (1923).
