Konda


Konda

 

a river in the Khanty-Mansi National Okrug, Tiumen’ Oblast, RSFSR; a left tributary of the Irtysh. Length, 1,097 km; basin area, 72,800 sq km. The river flows along the western border of the Western Siberian Plain. Its course is very winding. The Konda Basin contains many lakes, with a total area of 541 sq km. The river is fed by mixed sources, predominantly snow. The average annual water flow 164 km from the mouth is 231 cu m per sec; the maximum flow is 1,220 cu m per sec, and the minimum flow is 36.1 cu m per sec. The flood period is prolonged. The river freezes in late October to early November and thaws in late April to the middle of May. The main tributaries of the Konda are the Mulym’ia, BoPshoi Tap, lukonda, and Kama on the left, and the Evra and Kuma on the right. The river is used to float logs. The city of Urai is located on the Konda, and the Shaim oil deposits are located in its basin.
